CD-P1

This project was a creative collaboration with industrial designer Pierrick Pichaureaux of pich.studio. Pierrick designed this CD player as a personal project, drawing inspiration from the distinctive design language of Teenage Engineering. Despite not being affiliated with the brand, their clean, functional aesthetic served as a jumping-off point for this concept. When Pierrick shared his model with us, we saw the perfect opportunity to create a short animation that would bring his vision to life, highlighting the intricate details of his design in motion.

For us, this was a great chance to step back into product rendering after a few years of focusing solely on short films and character work. It was an excellent exercise in lighting and composition, honing in on how small details, like a knurled tube or the texture of a fabric, can elevate the storytelling. With a product like this, it’s not necessarily about creating an independent narrative but finding the moments within the design that tell their own story. Like how light interacts with the curves, how shadows play across the surface, and how every element works together to convey the object’s purpose and personality.

Like with our narrative short films, the piece was guided by principles of bold movement, rhythm, and visual storytelling, carrying the viewer from moment to moment. Even in a product centred video, we wanted to preserve the playfulness and emotion that typically define our work.
